Not everything can be learned in a class. We’ve gathered the best and the brightest from around the creative world to share their insight and demonstrate the tips and tricks they’ve learned from in the field. Every session at Thought At Work is built to help you succeed in your industry, explore new techniques and styles, or even branch out into a new field.
You’ve got a portfolio, we’ve got feedback. By filling a room with portfolio wizards (working professionals), we provide a venue to discuss and be taught how to craft a portfolio that’ll knock the socks off anyone who sees it. Bring your work!
It’s back. Load up your plate and prepare to witness the most intense hour of sketching you’ve ever seen. Friday night, the specially drafted group of creative contenders will flex their artistic muscles as they compete for the coveted Sketchoff prize.
Need to clear your cache? Not sure what to do in between workshops? We designed the Lounge from the ground up with conference attendees in mind, making it the perfect place to relax, have some coffee, chat with other attendees, or try your hand at the exotic sport of Ping-Pong.
Coming from out of town? There’s a pretty decent selection of hotels near RIT that would make for a comfortable home base. Airbnb is another suitable option.
**COUCH SURFING UPDATE: due to an unusually high number of couch surfing requests, we can't take any more applications until further notice (or until we find bigger couches). Thank you for understanding!
The conference comprises three days and two nights in autumnal Rochester, so pack accordingly. We recommend having a sketchbook and favorite writing utensil, and you should consider bringing your laptop as well. Bring business cards if you have them. Grab a camera if you want it to last longer. If you’re couch surfing, you might want your own pillow, blanket, and toiletries. Bring that creative appetite and bring a few friends.
RIT is located at 1 Lomb Memorial Drive, Rochester, NY 14623. Look up RIT on your phone. Greater Rochester International Airport is about 20 minutes away. If you’re crashing on one of our couches, contact your couch owner once you get here.
Guest parking will be lots E and H. When you get to campus, there will be signs to direct you to parking and check-in in Booth Hall (Building 7A). If you're getting here friday, you'll have to grab a free visitors pass from the welcome center. Our check-in table opens at 9am on Friday morning, and our opening reception will be at 11:45 am.
Upon check-in, you’ll be provided with a lanyard for entry into the events and workshops, a name tag, and a brochure with more information and a schedule. You’ll need your lanyard every day to enter workshops and other events.
Until the world finally embraces the pragmatism of meal-replacement formula, actual food will continue to be an important part of any weekend. At the conference, meals will be provided on several occasions (with vegetarian options). You can count on Friday night dinner and Saturday lunch, as well as light breakfasts on Saturday and Sunday. You might be on your own Saturday evening, and we can’t be responsible for snacks, second breakfast, elevenses, luncheon, afternoon tea, etc.
